WELCOME to 9ISA

Dear Colleagues,

According to the discussion at the closing session of the 8th International Symposium on Aphids held in Catania in 2009 and the decision of a group responsible for electing the next venue, the 9th International Symposium on Aphids will be held in May 2013 in Beijing, China. It’s our great pleasure to host this meeting! We are very grateful to the election group, especially Dr. Richard Harrington, for their encouragement and advices.

The 9ISA is organizing by the local committee on behalf of the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Entomological Society of China.

The main aims of this meeting are to bring together aphid colleagues from different countries, to facilitate discussion and communication of current knowledge by presenting main branches of aphid research, and to develop a better understanding of important biological problems using aphids as models
as well as the evolutionary and ecological mechanisms underlying the adaptation of agricultural and forestry aphid pests.

English will be the official language of the meeting. Detailed information about the specific meeting date, programme, abstract, travel award, hotel and other registration info will be updated on this website (www.9isa-beijing.org) and will be sent to you as email circulars as well.

I think there are at least two convincing reasons to inspire you to come to this meeting. First, China has various landforms, vegetation types and complex climate, therefore is one of the countries with greatest biodiversity. More than 1100 aphid species have been recored in China, and this number would definitely be much higher in the future. If come here, you can experience the diversity of this important component of the world’s aphid fauna. Second, Beijing has a long history of civilization, and as the capital of modern China and several dynasties in history, diverse but unique cultures meet here, and many historical relics have been well preserved in this international city. If come here, you would have memorable cultural experiences.

This is the first time the ISA comes to Asia. We promise to do our best and provide you a wonderful platform to communicate with colleagues. We sincerely invite you to come to the 9ISA. Your contributions would definitely help improve our understanding of aphids. Thank you in advance!

Looking forward to seeing you in Beijing.
